Apple has brought forth a Find My application in case you have lost or misplaced your iPhone, where they combined Find My Friends and Find My iPhone in 2019. This helps you locate your iPhone even when your Find My settings are switched off. However, one does wonder about the limitations of this application.
In this article, we will be discussing whether your iPhone’s Find My will work if your phone loses charge and dies on top of being misplaced or lost.

Dead iPhone walking?
It does make you wonder if your Find My application’s last location will be traceable if your iPhone loses battery or is switched off.
Yes, your iPhone’s last location is visible before its battery dies.
You can track your iPhone using your Apple Watch, iPad, or MacBook. However, you will only be able to view your iPhone’s last location before it runs out of charge if your Send Last Location toggle in your Find My settings is in the on position. Usually, this setting is switched on by default so unless manually turned off, you will be able to view your iPhone’s last location before its battery dies.
You can switch on your Send Last Location on your iPhone’s Find My settings to avoid future mishaps. You can access the Find My setting in two ways: the first method is fairly easy to reach by going to Settings > Tap on your Apple ID > Tap on Find My option> Tap on Find My iPhone > Select Send Last Location. The other method includes switching on your location in Location Services as well:

Open Settings and scroll down to tap on Privacy. Then tap on Location Services.
- If the Location Services toggle is in the on position, you can switch it on. Now tap on the Share My Location option at the bottom of this page.
- You will be directed to the Find My page and you can switch on the Share My Location toggle here.
- You can tap on the Find My iPhone option as well as the Send Last Location toggle to check if it is enabled.
On the Find My app, through any other Apple device, you can reach the last known location of your iPhone. Although, if it is moved after it runs out of charge then you will not be able to track its current location. Unless the iPhone is charged and switched on at any point thereafter.
What if your iPhone is switched off?
If your device is switched off, you will be able to track your iPhone as long as the Find My settings are enabled. However, if your device is only offline and not switched off then the Find My settings can work to track your iPhone without any network connection. Your iPhone can be tracked for up to 24 hours.
With other Apple devices in the vicinity, the Find My feature can help track your iPhone as long as they all are updated with iOS 15 or later. You can also track your iPhone by logging into your iCloud account from another Apple device.
If you fear that your iPhone is dead, you can use Find My from another Apple device, preferably someone who could see your location prior to this incident. You can remotely lock your device and enable the Notify When Found settings to be notified when your device is online again.
