While we all know Google as the super functional search engine that we all use to find anything from answers about the space to look up cooking recipes, it’s got quite a bunch of tricks up its sleeves.
In this article, we’re going over some super cool Google tricks that you need to know about.
Askew
If you run a Google search with nothing in the search box except the word ‘askew’, you’ll see the search result page slightly tilted to the right.

Do a barrel roll
How about giving Google a bit of a physical challenge? Well, if you search for “do a barrel roll”, the search results page will, you guessed it, do a barrel roll twice.
Recursion
There is a little bit of wordplay here for those who already know and understand how recursion works. If you search for ‘recursion’ on Google, it’ll keep showing “Did you mean: recursion?” under the search bar over and over again.
Atari Breakout
There have been hundreds of iterations of Atari’s Breakout game, but perhaps one of the most fun and easy to access was Google’s take on the game. You’d search for it in the search bar, and your search results would turn into the game itself.
Since then, this trick has been taken down from Google, but it’s still available over at elgooG, a Google mirror.
Google Gravity
Google’s take on Gravity is also rather funny. You see, if you type in “Google Gravity” in the search bar and click the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button, all the search results would fall off from their original place. Why so? Because of gravity!
Thanos’ Snap
The trick came out around the release of Avengers Infinity War and added a little bit of a Marvel touch to your Google search. It’s since available of elgooG.
Essentially, if you search for Thanos and click the gauntlet icon under the character’s biography, half your search results will disappear at random.
Anagram
If you’re a crossword fan or like anagrams and dad jokes, this one is for you. When you search for ‘anagram’ on Google, under the search box, you will get a suggestion saying “, Did you mean: Nag a Ram?”. It’s a made-up word, essentially an anagram of the word anagram.
Google Sky
Much like Google Earth, Google Sky allows you to go through space and fly through constellations, galaxies discovered planets and whatnot. It’s space exploration on your browser.
Zerg Rush
Another game that you could play on Google has also disappeared. It is, however, available over at elgooG — the Google mirror. It’s little o’s falling off from the top of the page until the entire page is filled with o’s that make a GG at the end. Pretty fun to watch and play.
You can also access this trick by typing “zerg rush” in the Google search box and clicking on the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S
This easter egg was launched to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the very popular sitcom show F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Every time you search for a character from the sitcom, a distinct icon will be shown off on their biographies related to their traits and behaviours in the show.
Animal sounds
If for whatever reason, you feel like listening to animal sounds, just Google for “animal sounds”, and the search engine will present you with an entire list of animals you can listen to, including Komodo Dragons, Hyenas, Rhinos and whatnot.
1998
If you ever feel like taking a look at what Google looked like back in 1998, its founding year, just Google for “google in 1998”. You’ll see what is a very rudimentary webpage, with the only image on the page being Google’s logo.
Making Google dance
If you feel like making Google dance, all you have to do is search for ‘cha-cha slide’. You’ll see the first result — a Youtube video with an icon below. Just click on the icon and watch a search engine show you some pretty cool dance moves.
Google Games
If you ever get bored but have access to the internet, Google has got plenty of games to keep you entertained. You can play Pacman, Minesweeper, Snake, Solitaire and Tic Tac Toe. All it takes is a Google search.
Big questions, big answers
If you ever feel like giving yourself an existential crisis or want some pretty big questions answered, just run a Google search for “answer to life, the universe, and everything”. Don’t be surprised by the answer, though.
You can also search for “the loneliest number”, “once in a blue moon”, “number of horns on a unicorn” for some pretty funny answers.
