Google’s Gemini app is now available in India. It supports English and nine Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Also, Google is integrating Gemini into Google Messages for select devices with Android phones with 6GB of higher RAM, the latest Messages version, and RCS chats turned on.
Besides its launch in India, Google has also quietly introduced the Gemini app in Turkey, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Android users in these countries can download the app from the Play Store and configure it as the default AI assistant in the Google Assistant app. Additionally, iPhone users in India can access Gemini via the Google app in the coming weeks, reports TechCrunch.
The Gemini mobile app runs on Gemini 1.0 Pro by default. Users can upgrade to the Gemini Advanced experience, powered by Gemini 1.5 Pro. This advanced version features a 1 million token context window, enabling it to handle vast information, including documents up to 1,500 pages and intricate data analysis tasks.
“To access Gemini on Android, download the Gemini app or opt-in through Google Assistant. You can then use Gemini by corner swiping, hitting the power button on select phones, or saying “Hey Google,” explained Google.
Additionally, Gemini Advanced supports the nine Indian languages in the standard Gemini app.
Google showcased several expansions of its Gemini AI assistant at its I/O developer conference in May, highlighting integrations with apps like Gmail, Google Messages, and YouTube, as well as deeper integration within the Android operating system. These experiences will be gradually rolled out to supported devices in the coming months. Starting today, Indian users can access Gemini in Google Messages in English.
The Gemini app was first unveiled in the United States in February and has since been expanded to various markets, including Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. In April, it was introduced in several Asian markets, such as Japan and Korea, and other European countries, such as Spain and Portugal.
