Having a strong password is one of the most significant security features online and now G Suite admins will be able to ensure that their organisation’s employees use a strong password via four new customisations.

G Suite admins can already specify the minimum and maximum length limits of the passwords that can be set and with this new update, more features around making the password more secure and stronger have been added by Google.

Following are the new G Suite password features. All of these features will be available in the Admin console under Security –> Password management. The password length management tool will also be moved here from the Basic Settings card.

Require users to set a strong password

Admins can see which passwords in their domain have a weak password. With this feature enabled, G Suite admins will be able to force users to change the weak passwords.

This setting is switched off by default. You can direct your users here that gives them tips to create a strong password.

Notify users to change their passwords after a few days

G Suite admins can also set a specific date (30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 180 days, 1 year and others) when a user’s password will require and a new one will need to be created. Alternatively, you can also leave this to the ‘Never’ setting if you don’t wish to enforce this on your users.

Direct users to not use old passwords

If you do not wish for a user to reuse the password that they have previously used on their account, then let the ‘Allow password reuse’ option remain unchecked, which is unchecked by default.

Control when password length and strength go into effect

Admins can also control when the required password length and strength go into effect. It can either be the next time a user logins or changes their password.

By default, this feature is enforced when the user changes their password but if you want them to change it at the next sign-in, check the box beside Start password policy enforcement at next sign in.
