Many Instagram users doubt how to edit Instagram comments. Usually, social media platforms provide you with an option of editing your comments after you have posted them, but not Instagram.
Instagram does not offer a built-in feature to edit comments once posted directly. Once you’ve submitted a comment on a post, it becomes a permanent part of the comment thread and cannot be edited by the person commenting on the post or by the owner of the post.
However, you can delete your comment and then repost an updated version if you wish to make changes. Similarly, if you want to edit a comment on your Instagram post, you must delete it entirely.
We know this is a kind of a downer, but it is what it is.
To delete a comment on Instagram:
- Open the Instagram app on your mobile device.
- Navigate to the post where your comment is located.
- Find your comment in the comment section.
- Tap and hold on your comment. Select the Delete option at the top.
After deleting the comment, you can write a new comment with the desired changes. We have covered a detailed article on how to delete Instagram comments. You can visit this article for more understanding on the subject.

Why can’t you edit Instagram comments?
The inability to edit comments is a peculiar one as most of the social media platforms allow you to edit the comments.
There can be a few reasons why Instagram doesn’t allow editing comments:
As Instagram is home to many influencers and stars, the platform aims to maintain the integrity and transparency of conversations. Once a comment is posted, it becomes a permanent part of the conversation, ensuring that the original internet and context remain intact.
Preventing misuse and abuse
Implementing comment editing capabilities could open the door to potential misuse and abuse. If users were allowed to edit their comments indefinitely, it could enable them to alter their statements, potentially leading to misunderstandings or even manipulative behaviour. For example, a user could post a comment that contains a link to a malicious website, and then edit the comment to remove the link after a large number of people has seen it.
