Not only because the phones were dear to us, but also because of losing the contacts that we had saved in them. With the advancement of technology, however, many things have changed. Now, you can install various software to track your phone in case of theft and can protect your contacts by uploading them on the cloud or by saving them as a shareable file.
Having a Google account is common these days, and therefore, here, we explain ways in which you can backup and export your contacts in Google.
Backup contacts on Android for exporting
Backing up contacts on the Android is easy. Follow the steps mentioned below to backup contacts.
- Open the Contacts app on your device.
- Tap on the three-dot icon on the top right of the screen.
- Select the Settings option from the drop-down menu.
- Scroll down and then tap on Import/Export option.
- Next, tap on Export to .vcf file.
Select the location where you want to save the file and then click Create. You can also transfer the file to a USB drive or any other portable device.
Backup contacts to your Google Accounts (cloud)
This is another very effective way to backup the contacts. With this method, you can be sure that no contacts will be deleted or lost, in case your device gets lost or destroyed. To backup contacts to your Google Accounts, follow the instructions given below.
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Scroll down and then tap on the Accounts option.
- Here, you will see all the accounts that you currently have. Select your Google account.
- Now, tap on the Account Sync option.
- After that, turn on the toggle button on the Contacts option.

Backup contacts on the computer
To backup your contacts on the computer, follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Go to Google contacts and then sign in with the same Gmail account as the one you’re logged into the Android device.Step 2: Click on People and Sharing from the left menu and then select the Contacts option.
Step 4: Select a contact or a group of contacts.Step 5: Click on the three-dot button at the top and then click on Export. Alternatively, you can click on the Export button in the left menu. Step 6: Select the relevant option — Google CSV, Outlook CSV or vCard and then click on Export.
The file will download on your PC. You can now transfer the data to the destination of your choice or can save it for future reference.
Using all three of these methods, you’ll be able to backup and export your contacts via the Google account. This is useful especially if you’re changing phones or simply if you wish to have a backup copy of your contacts in case your phone gets misplaced.
