How to install Android Studio on Windows 11?

Android Studio, a flexible Integrated Development Environment (IDE), helps you develop applications for Android and is a top choice of many. Whether you are a novice or a pro at programming, installing Android Studio on your computer is a first and essential step.

In this article, we will explain how to install Android Studio on Windows 11. The process is quite simple and you don’t have to do anything complicated.

Download Android Studio from the internet

The first step is to download the Android Studio from the internet. Open any browser and then search ‘Android Studio.’ Now, select the first website that you see. Or, you can directly visit developer.android.com. After that follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Click the Download Android Studio button to launch the process.

Step 2: Now, select the Download Android Studio Jellyfish button.

Step 3: You will see some terms and conditions on your screen. We advise you to go through it. Otherwise, scroll down and checkmark the ‘I have read and agree with the above terms and conditions.’ Once you do that, the ‘Download Android Studio Jellyfish | 2.23.3.1 for Windows’ box will become black, that is, you can click on it to start the process.

Step 4: Now, select the folder you want the Android Studio to install on Windows 11. Once you are done with selecting the location, press Save.

While the download is in process, you will see a notification informing you that ‘You earned the Android Studio User badge’. Press Create profile to claim the badge or Dismiss to move forward.

Install Android Studio on Windows 11

Now that you have downloaded the setup of Android Studio, let us install it on Windows 11. Head to the folder where the file has been downloaded and double-click it.

After that, follow the steps given below:

Step 1: You will see the welcome screen. Click on Next to continue. Usually, it is recommended that you close any running program before installing new ones.

Step 2: Now, select which features of Android Studio you want to install. Press Next after you have selected them. Android Studio includes two components. The first one is the Android Studio IDE which is the main development environment while the second one is Android Virtual Device (AVD), an emulator for testing apps without needing a physical device. This component is optional but recommended for new developers.

Step 3: Select the drive and folder where you want Android Studio to install. To do that, press Browse and when you are done, press Next.

Step 4: Now, it’s time for you to select the Start Menu Folder. If you don’t want it, check the box beside the Do not create shortcuts option. Once you have selected the options, press Install. The installation will begin.

Step 5: As soon as the installation will finish, you’ll see two options: Config or installation directory and Do not import settings. If you have previously configured Android Studio, you can import those settings via the first option. If you don’t have any, select the second one.

Complete the setup of Android Studio in Windows 11

Now that you have installed Andriod Studio on your Windows 11 computer, let’s complete the setup:

Step 1: Android Studio will prompt you to choose between Standard or Custom setup. For beginners, the standard setup is recommended. However, experienced developers can select Custom to see all the options. Press Next when you’re done.

Step 2: The custom setup includes downloading additional components like the Android ADK, performance packages, and the AVD. The total download size will be around 2 GB. Select the options, select the installation locations and then confirm the download by pressing Next.

Step 3: After that, allocate memory for the Intel HAXM emulator. The default memory size is 2 GB but you can increase the size if your system has enough RAM.

Step 4: Once again, click Next.

Step 5: You’ll see a summary of the installation settings. Press Next to head forward.

Step 6: You’ll need to accept various license agreements for the components under two headings — android-sdk-license and Intel-android-extra-license. You can read each one individually or accept all at once. Select the Accept option in the bottom right corner to accept the licenses. When you are done, press Finish.

The process may take a while as the file size is quite large. Once the installation is complete, you can start a new project to verify everything is working correctly. Select New Project, choose a template (like an empty activity), and configure your project settings such as the name of the application, minimum SDK and the build configuration language.
