Snapchat keeps things exciting with disappearing messages and fun filters. Sometimes, you might want to know if a friend is around to chat, but figuring out if someone’s online can be tricky. Unlike some platforms, Snapchat doesn’t indicate that someone is online.

There are a few ways to check if they’re active on the app. This article will cover all the methods to see if a user is active on Snapchat.

Below we have discussed:

Send a message

When you chat with someone on Snapchat, you will see the friend’s bitmoji appearing in the chat window. Send a message to your friend, and if you see your friend’s bitmoji at the bottom left corner of the screen, then it means your friend is online and viewing your chat.

Check the Snap Map

Snap Maps show you where your friends are when they’re using Snapchat. But remember, depending on your friend’s privacy settings, you might not always see their locations on the map. You can usually see when someone was last active on Snapchat and where they were unless they’ve turned on Ghost Mode, which hides their location.

As long as Snap Maps is active, the user’s location gets updated regularly unless the user switches to Ghost Mode or turns off location services. This feature comes in handy to determine where someone is or if they’re online. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open the Snapchat app on your phone and tap the Map icon at the screen’s bottom left corner.
  • If your friend used the snap map, you will see their bitmoji in the bar at the bottom; tap on their bitmoji.
  • Below your friend’s name, you will see their last active status. This means the user was last active at this location one hour ago.

Send a Snap

If you’ve sent a snap or message on Snapchat, the app lets you know how long ago the person read it. You can use this information to determine whether they’re currently online. This method involves sending a Snap. After sending the Snap, look at the delivery notification below the recipient’s name.

  • Delivered means the Snap has reached their phone, but it doesn’t confirm if they’ve seen it.
  • If it changes to Opened, you know they’ve been on the app recently.

You can also see the time beside the opened and delivered status. It will show you how much time it has been after the message has been delivered and how much time it has been after the message has been after the snap has been opened.

Check their Story posts

Recent story posts are another good indicator of activity. Snapchat stories disappear after 24 hours, so a fresh story suggests they likely used the app recently to add it. You can also see the time the story was uploaded which can give a vague idea of when the person was online to post stories.

Check their Snap Score

Snap Score is a number that reflects a user’s overall activity on Snapchat. It increases by sending and receiving Snaps, adding stories, and interacting with the app. When someone’s Snap score increases, the user was active recently. but it’s not always reliable. Snap scores are updated every few minutes, so you can come back later to see if there’s been any change. Here’s how to check it:

  • Open the user’s chat and tap on their Name at the top.
  • Snap score will be available below their name.

While there’s no guaranteed method to know if someone is using Snapchat, these tips can give you a better idea of their recent activity. Just be respectful of their privacy and avoid any obsessive monitoring.
