Snapchat is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world thanks to its privacy focussed features like disappearing messages and an interesting take on messaging as a whole. That said, the app can also function as a platform in itself, allowing content creators to grow and put their content out to a wider audience beyond their phonebook.

In this article, we’re talking about how to make a public profile on Snapchat.

Making a public profile on Snapchat

A public profile lets you create a public-facing bio that can be great if you’re a content creator, influencer or a business trying to reach an audience over Snapchat. You can add a bio, business location, business type, subscription options and a website link.

Additionally, a public profile also lets you post public stories, highlights of your best photos, videos and stories, any custom Snapchat lenses you’ve made and links to your e-commerce store if applicable. You can also access statistics that detail your reach on the platform, the demographics of your audience, the number of views, watch time and even the most popular age range among your Snapchat audience.  If you’re worried about mixing your friends with subscribers on your public-facing profile, it is possible to keep the two separate.

As for creating one, there are two requirements you need to keep in mind:

  • You must be over 18 years old.
  • Your account must be at least 24 hours old.

If you think you meet the requirements for a public profile, actually creating one is rather easy. You can simply convert your existing profile to a public one by following these steps. Keep in mind that the process can only be done from the Snapchat app and is identical regardless of whether you’re using Android or iOS.

  • Open Snapchat and tap your avatar in the top left.
  • Scroll down and tap Create Public Profile.
  • Tap Get Started.
  • Read through the disclaimer and tap Create.
