Google Drive is one of the most popular cloud storage services around at the moment. Although you do only get 15GB of free space, the sheer convenience it offers beats everything else.

In this article, we’re talking about how you can upload a video to Google Drive and save it without worrying about compression or loss of quality.

Uploading videos to Google Drive on PC/Mac

If you’re on your PC or Mac, follow these steps to upload your videos.

Step 1: Open Google Drive in your browser, log in to your Google account if you haven’t already and click the new button in the top left.

Step 2: Select File upload from the pop-up menu.

Step 3: Browse to the location where your video is saved and select it to upload.

Alternatively, you can also just drag and drop your videos in the Google Drive browser window to upload them.

Uploading videos to Google Drive using the app

If you’re using Google Drive on your phone (Android/iOS), you can use the Google Drive app to upload videos and other files.

  • Open the Google Drive app and tap the plus icon in the bottom right.
  • Tap Upload.
  • Google Drive will now open your phone’s media explorer. You can choose what video you want to upload from here.

If you use Google Photos, keep in mind that Google automatically backs up your photos and videos, so you might already have a backup of the video you’re trying to save stored separately in Google Photos. This can come in handy as you can fill up your 15GB free quota on Drive rather quickly, considering just how high-quality smartphone videos are getting, which amounts to much larger file sizes.
