Microsoft’s video-game focused live streaming platform, Mixer, which was launched in January 2016 and competed with the likes of Twitch, is being shut down completely on July 22, with its community scheduled to transition to Facebook Gaming over the next few weeks.
Starting today, anyone from the Mixer community can transition to Facebook Gaming. Mixer partners will be granted a partner status in Facebook Gaming too and will be able to find more details about the sign-up process in today’s Mixer update.
Participants of Mixer’s open monetisation program will be eligible to sign-up for Facebook Gaming Level Up program, which works on similar terms and users can continue to monetise their streams.

All the viewers transitioning over to Facebook Gaming will see Facebook pages for all the channels they follow on Mixer, which they can follow on the new platform. Any viewers with add-on awards like Embers or Sparks left in their Mixer account are encouraged to award them to their favourite streamers as soon as possible, who will receive double the rewards. Those with ‘outstanding’ Ember balances, channel subscriptions or Mixer Pro subscriptions will receive Xbox Gift cards as an acknowledgement of their support.
Starting July 22, all the Mixer sites and apps will start redirecting users to Facebook Gaming, which boasts 700 million active monthly users who play or watch a game and interact in gaming groups. Mixer creators and partners can view this FAQ page for more details on the transition.
“The success of partners and streamers on Mixer is dependent on our ability to scale the service for them as quickly and broadly as possible. It became clear that the time needed to grow our own live streaming community to scale was out of measure with the vision and experiences we want to deliver to gamers now, so we’ve decided to close the operations side of Mixer and help the community transition to a new platform — Facebook Gaming,” Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, announced.
