The company announced earlier this month on October 8 that their upcoming ‘flagship killer’ OnePlus 6T will be launched on October 30 but now they’ve shifted the launch event date to October 29. But why?
For one, their event is in New York, where another silicon valley giant — Apple — has also scheduled their event on October 30, where it’s expected that a new generation of iPad and MacBooks will be announced.
So, to escape being overshadowed by the limelight that Apple’s events have always enjoyed, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus has decided to move their event dates to October 29.
Note: The India launch of OnePlus 6T, scheduled for 8:30 pm on October 30, at KDJW (IG) stadium in New Delhi, hasn’t been affected. The event is being attended by 1500 people and the tickets are sold out.
“When we announced the launch of the OnePlus 6T on October 8, we were convinced our timing would allow us to maximize the amount of people we could reach with our message. That changed when Apple announced they would be hosting their own event on October 30,” Pete Lau announced.
“For months on end, hundreds of people have poured their hearts and souls into creating our best product to date. Our goal is to make sure it gets the time and attention it deserves.”
While this move by OnePlus might be looked down upon as people might be of the view that the company is scared of Apple, but giving it more thought you might realise that it’s nothing but pragmatic.
OnePlus offers their flagship devices, with the best of specs, at only half the price of its competitors like Samsung, Google, Apple and others. And for obvious reasons, they wouldn’t want to clash their launch with one of the biggest players in the tech industry.
Following a chat with their press contacts, the company decided that “launching the OnePlus 6T on October 30, we would be overshadowed by Apple.”
“We have to remain realistic. We have only just begun our journey and cannot afford to let one of the most important products in our history be affected by another great product launch,” Lau concluded.
OnePlus 6T’s launch event being rescheduled is nothing but practical on the company’s part.

For all the ticket holders
OnePlus’ event, which was sold out, might see less participation but the company has gone out of their way in order to make every one of their ticket holder a happy person.
Those who won’t be able to make it to the event due to change in dates, their tickets will be refunded. The company will also cover any costs that might incur on the ticket holders due to the change in plans — including cost for rescheduling flights, hotel bookings and other arrangements.
OnePlus will be contacting all the ticket owners individually. This, indeed, is a great gesture from one of the consistently growing smartphone brands globally.
The OnePlus event is rescheduled to October 29, 3 pm GMT at Pier 36, New York.
OnePlus 6T is expected to feature an in-screen fingerprint display and facial recognition for unlocking the device, USB type-C Bullet earphones, and might also sport a ‘waterdrop’ notch as has been seen on quite a few devices from Chinese manufacturers.
