PlayStation Network hit by major outage, disrupts gamers globally

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) suffered a significant outage on Monday night, leaving gamers frustrated and unable to access various services across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and even older devices like the PS3 and PS Vita. The disruption has affected millions of users globally, preventing access to online multiplayer gaming, apps, and other network-based features.

According to Sony’s official PSN Service Status page, the issue began around 9:21 PM ET. The status update acknowledged that users may experience difficulties launching games, apps, and services requiring a network connection.

The outage affects all platforms linked to PlayStation, making it impossible for players to sign in or use online features across devices.

However, as The Verge reports, offline gaming is the only exception, allowing players to enjoy single-player games without an internet connection.

Players attempting to access the service have encountered various error messages, including one referencing “WS-116522-7”. According to Sony’s official support channels, this particular error is related to problems with system software updates.

This has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing connectivity issues.

As of now, the root cause of the service disruption remains unclear, as Sony has not released a public statement detailing the specific reasons. However, the company has acknowledged the problem and stated that its technical teams are actively working on a solution.

Unfortunately for affected users, Sony has not provided a timeline for when the service is expected to return to normal, leaving many gamers uncertain about when they’ll be able to resume their online activities.

This widespread outage came shortly after Sony released another issue with PS5 home screen artwork earlier in the day, affecting the display of game icons. Though the two problems seem unrelated, the timing has left users wondering if the network instability could be part of a larger technical issue within PlayStation’s ecosystem.

While the problem persists, gamers have few options. Some recommend that players focus on single-player experiences while the company works to restore full functionality. While the PSN Status page reports all issues resolved, players are still getting error messages.
