Privacy-focused tech company Proton has launched the Proton VPN app for Apple TV and extended its compatibility to Apple Vision Pro. This app enables privacy-conscious users to stream their favourite content or engage in virtual reality (VR) securely and without any restrictions.

The Proton VPN app for Apple TV and Vision Pro compatibility for paid subscribers of Proton VPN Plus, Proton Unlimited, and Proton Visionary plans.

The Apple TV app is designed with Proton’s signature user-friendly interface, accommodating the unique needs of a big-screen experience. The company has introduced simplified, oversized icons and remote-control-friendly navigation.

Users just need to download the app from the App Store, select a server in the country of their choice, and stream as though they’re in that region. This is suitable for travellers and geo-locked content.

Beyond protecting users from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and third-party tracking, the Proton VPN app for Apple TV enhances the overall streaming experience by reducing buffering, a common issue caused by ISP throttling.

Proton VPN promises less congestion and higher video quality for its viewers.

Proton VPN relies on more than 8,500 servers located in 112 countries, allowing users to experience less congestion, fewer slowdowns, and a higher standard of video quality.

“Users can now keep their streaming habits, online activity, and their IP addresses private from their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or any other third parties,” said David Peterson, General Manager of Proton VPN told Candid.Technology.

The Apple TV app introduces compatibility with Apple’s Vision Pro. This feature allows users to safeguard their online activity during VR sessions, which marks a first for Proton VPN’s foray into the world of virtual reality, allowing users to keep their data private while gaming or working in immersive environments.

Proton continuously expands its VPN services across countries to provide people with secure and safe internet access. In August 2024, Proton VPN deployed servers across 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq and Kuwait, among others. Most of these countries repress their citizens and are at the bottom of the Democracy Index.

Earlier, in June, Proton VPN expanded to five countries with credentialless logins.
