Rhysida ransomware gang has fulfilled its threat by releasing a staggering 1.67 terabytes (TB) of internal data from the renowned game developer, Insomniac Games.
This disclosure comes after the ransom deadline lapsed, showcasing over 1.3 million files on the darknet leak site.
According to a report by Cyber Daily, the leaked data encompasses crucial details about Insomniac’s highly anticipated Wolverine video game, with the gang taunting, “Not sold, data was uploaded, data hunters, enjoy.” A portion of the data was sold to an undisclosed bidder, leaving only 98% of the dataset accessible.
Rhysida had initially issued a threat on December 12, having previously shared proof-of-hack materials, and demanded a ransom of around $12 million for the sensitive data. Notably, any buyer, including Sony, was invited to bid for the information.
The vast trove of leaked files was disseminated in three parts, each linked to an online data exchange. Scrutinising the first set alone reveals many level design and character materials from the Wolverine game, alongside design images and JPEGs.

In addition to the unreleased Wolverine game, the leak incorporated files from Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 video game and internal HR documents, including I-9 employment forms and termination records. Internal screenshots from Insomniac’s Slack channels and several employee PCs have also been made public.
Notably, the lease contains an agreement between Marvel and Sony Interactive Entertainment, signed by Marvel’s entertainment chairperson, Issac Perlmutter, and Sony’s president, Jim Ryan.
The document is dated July 26, 2021, and outlines three X-Men games, the first being Wolverine, scheduled for release on September 1, 2025, with the others following by December 31, 2029, and December 31, 2033, respectively. According to the agreement, Sony will invest a minimum of $120 million in each title.
It remains unconfirmed whether passports belonging to Insomniac’s staff are part of the leaked information.
