Samsung has started rolling out One UI 7 beta on Galaxy 24 series devices only in selected regions. One UI 7 is based on Android 15, which debuted in September 2024. The new operating system has a complete visual remodel, including the home screen and widgets.

One UI 7 brings updates to AI features for Galaxy devices, including writing assist tools that can summarise, check spelling, or generate text. Call transcripts will also be available with support for 20 languages when the call recording feature is enabled.

The camera app was redesigned with a new layout for the buttons, controls and modes, allowing the user to have more control over advanced settings. Samsung said that the reorganisation will “make it easier to find the features you need and to give you a clearer preview of the picture you’re taking or the video you’re recording.” The manual settings layout of Pro photo and video modes has been simplified, along with a new feature to control zoom speed, allowing for a smoother transition.

The notification tray and quick settings are separate; however, the split is optional. New designs include system app icons and new lock screen tweaks showcasing “bold, iconic design choices.”

It comes with a new notification system termed the “Now Bar,” which shows ” relevant activities.” The new feature will be mainly visible on the lock screen, with information including the timer, recording, and music, like the Dynamic Island feature on iPhone. No further details on the information display of third-party apps were mentioned.

The beta program was launched on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Initially, it will only be available in the United States, India, Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Poland. Users must sign up through the Samsung Members app.

Samsung said that the official One UI 7 will be launched with new Galaxy S series devices “starting from the first quarter of 2025.” The update will roll out gradually on other Galaxy devices as per the company’s commitment to extending its OS upgrade policy. More AI features, including advanced on-device AI functions, will be introduced in the full release.
