The State Bank of India is the largest public bank in India and offers a range of services to its customers. One of the services offered by SBI is the UPI payment tool.

The SBI UPI payment tool is quite handy and allows users to send or receive money via any bank. All you have to do is to link your bank account and you’re good to go.

However, many people have complained that the SBI UPI app is not working on their devices. There could be many reasons for this issue and in this article, we’ll investigate the probable reasons behind the problem and the potential fixes.

Why is your SBI UPI app not working?

Here are some of the most common reasons why the SBI UPI app is not working on your device:

  • Server issue with SBI: The most common reason for the issue is SBI server outages. Usually, the SBI servers work fine, but sometimes, due to the scheduled maintenance, degradation or traffic load, the servers might not work as intended. There is nothing you can do in this situation but for the SBI engineers to get the servers back up.
  • Outdated app: As this app is used for financial transactions, an outdated app will not work for long and you will have to update it regularly.
  • Unstable internet: Transfering money requires a stable internet connection and if you have some issues with your internet, the SBI UPI app will not be able to connect to the servers.
  • Your location settings are off: Usually, the location settings are of no consequence when using UPI apps. However, sometimes turning on your location has helped some customers.
  • Your device’s date and time settings are wrong: Sometimes, wrong date and time settings may also affect the working of the app.

How to fix the SBI UPI app not working issue?

Now that we have understood the possible reasons behind why your SBI UPI app isn’t working, let us head to the fixes.

Restart your device

You should first start by restarting your device. When you restart, all the corrupt and minor bugs get flushed out and your RAM starts afresh.

It won’t hurt to give this step a try as it is the easiest step that you can take.

Fix your internet

If restarting your device didn’t help in fixing the SBI UPI app not working issue, you should check your internet connection. Start by streaming an online video as it is a pretty good indicator of your internet’s speed although the UPI apps don’t need a large bandwidth like the online streaming apps.

If the video is not running smoothly, you should look at your internet and try to fix it.

Sometimes, the internet is working fine, however, the problem is with your WiFi. To fix it, you will have to know what to do if your WiFi isn’t working.

Update the SBI UPI app

An outdated SBI UPI app will not work properly and you will have to update it as soon as the bank releases the next set of patches.

Head to the respective app stores of your mobile devices — Google Play Store or Apple App Store — and search for the app’s name. Then, tap on Update and wait for the update to finish.

Launch the app again and try to complete the transaction. This time it should work.

Turn on the location settings

As explained earlier, turning on the location settings has helped a few customers and they were able to reverse the SBI UPI not working situation.

Android

Here’s how to turn on the location in Android:

  • Open Settings and then tap on Location.
  • Turn on the toggle beside Use location.

iPhone

  • Open Settings and then select Privacy.
  • Tap on Location Services at the top and then head to the SBI UPI app and select While Using.
  • Tap on System Services.
  • Now, you can turn on or off the Status Bar Icon to see the status of your Location Services. This process is optional.

Set the correct date and time on your device

Setting the correct date and time on your device also helped some customers get the SBI UPI back up and working again.

  • Open Settings and head to System.
  • Next, tap on Date and time.
  • Finally, turn on the toggle in front of Set time automatically.

In conclusion, the SBI UPI app not working issue can be caused by several issues including a server outage, internet issues, outdated app, incorrect date and time settings, or location services turned off on your device. You will have to start with the easiest fix, that is, to restart your device and from there move along the list until you have successfully solved the issue.
