Snapchat is one of the most popular camera and messaging apps out there with millions of users around the world. The app is hailed for its privacy-focused features like screenshot notifications and disappearing messages, but despite that, it cannot fully protect you from the trove of bot and spam accounts out there.
In this article, we’re talking about how you can stop Snapchat bots from constantly adding you as a friend.
Why are Snapchat bots adding you?
There are a number of reasons why you might get constant friend requests from Snapchat bots but they all stem from your Snapchat username being leaked to a public source of information from where these bots harvest usernames.
As for why a bot is adding you, some common reasons include:
- The bot is part of a marketing campaign
- The bot is trying to build a bigger friend list relatively quickly
- The bot is a fake account trying to phish or steal your account credentials
- Spams and scams

How to prevent Snapchat bots from adding you?
Here are four fixes you can try out.
Disable the Quick Add feature
Snapchat’s quick add feature is a handy way of finding mutual friends and quickly adding them as a friend. However, this feature can also expose to you bot accounts added in other people’s friend lists. Disabling it can help isolate such cases.
- Open Snapchat and tap your profile picture in the top right.
- Tap the settings gear icon.
- Scroll down and tap on the See Me in Quick Add option under Who Can…
- Uncheck the setting and you’re good to go.
Change your Snap code
Your Snap code is a barcode that anyone can scan to quickly see your profile. If this code is leaked to the public, anyone will be able to see your profile and add you as a friend. Unfortunately, Snapchat doesn’t allow you to change your Snap code from within the app, however, changing your username or name in Snapchat can make modifications to the Snap code.
Ignore friend requests from people you don’t know
A rather simple solution is to just ignore friend requests from people you don’t know. If you see that anyone has added you that you don’t recognise, simply press the ‘x’ button at the right side of the prompt to dismiss the notification and ignore the request. We’ve already explained everything else the ‘x’ button does on Snapchat here.
Contact Snapchat support
If nothing else works for you, your best bet is to reach out to Snapchat support and let them sort out the issue for you. This could be a slow process depending on what’s the actual reason why this is happening but if anyone can resolve this for sure it’s Snapchat itself.
