Chrome has come a long way to compound security measures against compromised sites and malware. Safe Browsing lets Chrome identify and restrict phishing sites and harmful downloads.

Automatic downloads disallow you from downloading multiple files from the same source. However, users might want to download files from a site deemed potentially harmful by Chrome.

You may want to disable these features to unblock certain downloads from your computer. Though not recommended, Chrome extensions like the Cleanup Tool let users scan for the files prior to downloading them.

How to unblock potentially unsafe downloads in Google Chrome?

Use these steps to turn off the Safe Browsing option for unlocking potentially unsafe downloads.

Step 1: Click on the three stacked dots on the top-right corner of your Chrome browser.

Step 2: Select Settings from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Scroll down to find Security under Privacy and Security.

Step 4: Below Safe Browsing are available modes to browse Chrome. Click the radio button beside No protection to enable the option.

Step 5: A prompt confirming if you wish to turn-off Safe browsing will appear. Click on Turn off to disable the feature.

Turning off Safe browsing implies Chrome won’t block any downloads post changes. Users also won’t encounter any warning about malware or unsafe sites.

This setting can be reversed anytime by turning Safe Browsing back on by Settings > Security > Safe Browsing.

How to unblock Automatic downloads in Chrome?

Follow these steps to unblock Automatic downloads in Chrome.

Step 1: Click on the three stacked dots on the top-right corner of your Chrome browser.

Step 2: Select Settings from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Click on Site Settings under Privacy and Security.

Step 4: Select the Additional permissions option to expand it.

Step 5: Now, click on Automatic downloads.

Step 6: Turn on the toggle switch present alongside Do not allow any site to download multiple files automatically.

The option should now read as “Ask when a site tries to download files automatically after the first file.”

Clicking on the Add button allows you to add or block sites from where you want to download multiple files. It is advised that a user allows multiple downloads only from trusted sites.
