Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is gearing up for what it has teased as an ‘exciting week of announcements.’ starting today. Confirmed by Apple’s Marketing VP Greg Joswiak, the week-long rollout is anticipated to start with the launch of Apple Intelligence and extend to showcase a new lineup of Macs, iMacs, Apple accessories and a newly designed Mac Mini, all powered by the latest M4 chips.

Unlike past launches, this ‘Mac Week’ will be announced gradually, bypassing Apple’s traditional product events.

According to a previous report by Bloomberg, Apple is set to unveil Apple Intelligence and iOS 18.1 on October 28, 2024. This marks the beginning of a highly anticipated AI upgrade for iOS. Apple plans to launch its AI initiative in English in the United States first, followed by Australian, Canadian, South African, and New Zealand English versions.

The company also plans to add other languages, including Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish, in 2025. The AI promises functionalities such as predictive text, improved photo recognition, and smarter, more personalised app recommendations.

The M4 series debuted earlier this year in the iPad Pro and will now power Apple’s Mac line. Industry insiders believe that M4 will offer significant performance improvements and optimised AI processing that enhances tasks like real-resource-intensive applications.

According to Apple’s plans, the M4 chip upgrade will target two major areas: boosted computational power and improved AI integrations, especially for creative professionals who rely on Mac devices for performance-heavy tasks.

Here’s what’s new for each Mac model to be released on November 1:

  • MacBook Pro: The MacBook Pro lineup, which has historically been Apple’s performance-oriented laptop, is expected to receive the M4 update for the 14-inch and 16-inch models. There is no change in the design, but the M4 chips promise a significant performance boost.
  • iMac: The popular all-in-one desktop, the iMac, is expected to see the M4 upgrade as well, enhancing its performance for tasks ranging from creative design to everyday productivity. With this improvement, Apple continues to close the gap between its desktop and mobile processing power, appealing to casual and professional users who favour the iMac’s compact design.
  • Mac Mini: Apple’s Mac Mini has retained a relatively consistent design over the last decade and is due for a major overhaul. The new version is rumoured to be more compact — approaching the size of an Apple TV box — and will likely shed legacy port in favour of a modern setup featuring multiple USB-C options.

Apple is also expected to update its Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad with USB-C connectivity to align with recent product shifts, including the iPhone 15’s adoption of the universal standard.

In mid-October, the iPad Mini received its first upgrade since 2021. Now, it is powered by an A17 Pro chip, supports the new Apple Pencil Pro, has 128 GB storage, and has an updated 12 MP camera.
