Clash of Clans is one of the most popular smartphone games ever release. The game lets players build up their bases while raiding others to eventually build a thriving clan with their own economies and armies. However, as is the case with any strategy game, keeping up in terms of military strength is absolutely important to both your offensive and defensive strategies.
In this article, we’re going over seven of the most powerful troops in Clash of Clans.
Healers
Healers are unlocked at Barracks level 8, which in turn requires Town Hall level 6. They’re also a bit expensive to train costing anywhere between 5,000 to 10,000 elixir based on the level of healer you’re training and occupy 14 housing space with a total training time of 15 minutes.

However, once you train them, they can often be the difference between victory and defeat. These flying units heal the closes unit or hero to them until the unit is fully healed or the healer itself is destroyed. Do keep in mind that they don’t heal over air units such as other Healers, Dragons, Balloons, Minions, Lava Hounds and Bat Spells.
Preferred Target | Attach Type | Housing Space | Movement Speed | Attack Speed | Hitpoints (Level 1) | Barracks Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
None | Heal Splash for 1.5 tiles | 14 | 16 | 0.7s | 500 | Level 8 |

Dragons
Dragons are a versatile unit in Clash of Clans that are quite effective in battle considering they can attack both ground and air defences. They have a really high damage output and hitpoints meaning they can take a lot of damage while wreaking havoc on the enemy base. They require Barracks level 9, which requires Town Hall level 7 to train. They take three minutes to train and occupy 20 housing space.
Preferred Target | Attach Type | Housing Space | Movement Speed | Attack Speed | Hitpoints (Level 1) | Barracks Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
None | Area Splash: 0.3 Tile Radius | 20 | 16 | 1.25s | 1,900 | Level 9 |
Pekka
Pekka (or P.E.K.K.A as it’s called in the game) is a big unit unlocked at Barracks level 10, which requires Town Hall level 9. A Pekka is a slow-moving troop that’s capable of absorbing and inflicting a lot of damage making it one of the strongest melee troops in the game.

Pekkas have no favourite target and will attack the closes building or enemy troop. They also require 25 housing space, have a movement speed of 16 and an attack speed of 1.8s. However, with nine upgradable levels, most defensive structures won’t be able to withstand more than two hits from a Pekka at its highest level.
Preferred Target | Attach Type | Housing Space | Movement Speed | Attack Speed | Hitpoints (Level 1) | Barracks Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
None | Melee | 25 | 16 | 1.8s | 3,000 | Level 10 |
Yeti
Yeti is a splash-damaging troop unlocked at Barracks level 14 which requires Town Hall level 12. One interesting thing about Yetis is that they carry a set amount of Yetimites — small creatures that attack buildings and destroy on impact. For every 600 damage a Yeti takes, it releases a Yetimite. If a Yeti has been destroyed, any remaining Yetimites are instantly released.
Yetis are slowed than Pekkas with a movement speed of 12 but attack much faster. This makes them a good offensive troop that can take care of your opponent’s defences while the rest of your troops go mop up the other buildings.
Preferred Target | Attach Type | Housing Space | Movement Speed | Attack Speed | Hitpoints (Level 1) | Barracks Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
None | Melee | 18 | 12 | 1s | 2,900 | Level 14 |

Hog Rider
Hog Riders are unique troops that are unlocked at Dark Barracks level 2. They can jump over walls and prioritise defensive structures over other targets. This means that they’ll bypass any walls, buildings or enemy troops and go straight for any defensive structures the opponent has, making them a great addition to your first wave of attacks. They require five housing spaces, have a movement speed of 24 and an attack speed of 1s making quick work of the enemy’s defences.Â

Preferred Target | Attach Type | Housing Space | Movement Speed | Attack Speed | Hitpoints (Level 1) | Barracks Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Defences | Melee | 5 | 24 | 1s | 270 | Dark Barracks Level 2 |
Bowler
The Bowler, as the name might suggest, is a troop that throws large round boulders that bounce off their target for two hits per strike, dealing splash damage wherever it lands. They’re unlocked at Dark Barracks level 7 which is unlocked at Town Hall level 10.
While they deal an incredible amount of damage, bowlers only have 325 hitpoints, meaning they can be easily defeated unless defended by another unit. If you can pair your Bowlers with a high hitpoint unit, you can quickly knock down enemy buildings.
Preferred Target | Attach Type | Housing Space | Movement Speed | Attack Speed | Hitpoints (Level 1) | Barracks Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
None | Area splash | 6 | 14 | 2.2s | 325 | Dark Barracks Level 7 |
Log Launcher
The Log Launcher is the fifth siege machine you’ll get your hands on in Clash of Clans and is unlocked at Workshop level 5. The logs shot by the Log Launcher can travel for as long as 20 tiles or hit four buildings. It also has a ‘point blank’ attack which happens at the same time a log is launched dealing damage to any structures or troops nearby.

That said, the biggest problem with Log Launchers is that they keep losing health when they’re shooting at a rate of approximately 155HP per second. While you can delay this process using the Grand Warden’s Life Aura ability, but nothing will stop the launcher’s decay. Once it’s reached its objective (by default the opponent’s Town Hall), it’ll break apart to launch the Clan Castle troops inside.
Preferred Target | Attach Type | Housing Space | Movement Speed | Attack Speed | Hitpoints (Level 1) | Barracks Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Walls | Area splash | 1 | 5 | 3s | 4,000 | Workshop Level 2 |
