Microsoft has begun integrating Bing Chat AI into its popular SwiftKey keyboard for Android which has more than one billion downloads. The integration started on Wednesday and allows SwiftKey Beta users to access the Microsoft Bing chatbot with ease, using just one tap within any app.
The Bing Chat integration offers two modes within SwiftKey — a chat mode and a tone mode. Using the chat mode, users can access the chatbot and with the help of the tone mode, you can rewrite any text within the keyboard, as reported by The Verge. Previously, the only way to access the Bing chatbot was through the Bing mobile app, which now seems redundant with the integration of Bing Chat into SwiftKey.
People can download the beta version of SwiftKey on the Google Play Store to access this new Bing Chat integration. According to Microsoft’s CTO of mobile and commerce, Pedram Rezaaei, the feature is “slowly rolling out”. However, there is no news yet on when SwiftKey iOS users will have access to the feature.
Microsoft discontinued support for SwiftKey on iOS last year but returned the app to the App Store soon after and continues to thrive with a 4.6 rating. SwifttKey was acquired by Microsoft in 2016 and has been one of the most popular third-party keyboards app on Android and iOS, thanks to its features like tracing, autocorrect, and theme support.
Microsoft is playing aggressively on the AI front with its recent acquisition of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. After that, Microsoft released the Bing Chatbot based on the ChatGPT platform and now the company plans to compete with other AI-powered keyboards such as Paragraph AI, which includes ChatGPT integration and is rising in popularity.
