Microsoft Word allows you to create, edit and customise your document — resume or homework, among others. You would find that in most of the cases, by default, Microsoft Word is set to work in English; however, you can change the language in Word to add a bit more personalised experience.

Change official display language in Microsoft Word

English is the default language in Microsoft Word, but it supports multiple languages. Follow the steps below to change the language in Microsoft Word.

Step 1: Open Word and then click on Option at the bottom of the left sidebar. Check out the screenshot below to get an idea. Step 2: Now, click on the Language option.Step 3: Here, in the Official display language, select your preferred language. In case you don’t see the language, click on Install additional languages from option and then choose your language. Remember to save your work first as Word will restart after installing the language.

The official language in Word corresponds to the language that you will see on the buttons, menu and options. In short, the display language is the user interface language of Word.

How to change the proofing language in Microsoft Word?

To change the proofing language in Word, follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Start Microsoft Word and then go to Options.Step 2: Next, choose the Language setting in the new window.Step 3: Under the Office authoring languages and proofing heading, choose the language. You can download additional proofing languages by clicking on Add a language button. Then, select the language and click on Install. Remember, to save all your Word data first.

Proofing language in Word is the language that you can use to create and edit documents as well as perform functions such as spelling and grammar check.

How to change proofing language on Word Android app?

If you are using the Word app on a smartphone, here are the steps to change the language:

  • Open the Word app and then tap on the Edit icon.
  • Now, select the Review option.
  • After that, choose Proofing and Language option and then select the language.

The display language of the Word app is the same as that of your device. You will have to change your device’s language option, and it will automatically change the default language of the Word app.

How to change default input language in Word?

Word uses the same input language that has been pre-set on your PC. For example, if the default language setting on your PC is Hindi, then the default input language in Word will be Hindi. To change the input language, you will have to set the language on your PC.

Here are the steps to change the language on the PC.
