Chromebooks don’t offer the traditional lock screen customisation you might find on a phone or tablet. But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with a bland screen. By enabling the screensaver function, you can add a touch of personality and even some useful features.

Changing Lock screen/Screen saver on Chromebook
To change the lock screen or screen saver of your Chromebook, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Right-click on your desktop. Click on the Set wallpaper & Style option in the menu.
Step 2: Under the Screen Saver section, click on the Turn on button. You will see this button only if you haven’t enabled it before. If you have already enabled it then you just have to click on the image set for your screensaver.
Step 3: On the next page, various settings are available.
- Select the duration of the screen saver.
- Under Screensaver animation, you can choose from two options: Feel the breeze: This animates your chosen photos within a simulated frame. Float on by: This displays your photos in a slideshow format.
- Click on Google Photos or Art gallery to pick the album you want to display on the lock screen.
- You can Fahrenheit or Celsius for weather.
Step 4: After you are done customising the screen saver settings, click on the Preview button.
Alternate way to view wallpaper settings
An alternate way to access wallpaper settings is by going to Settings > Personalization > Set your wallpaper & style.
Step 1: Click on the Time at the bottom right corner of the screen and then click on the Settings (Gear) icon.
Step 2: Click on the Wallpaper and style option in the sidebar and then on the right side click on the Set your wallpaper & style option.
Additional notes
- It’s important to remember that managed accounts, such as those used in schools or workplaces, might restrict access to the screensaver option.
- While Chromebooks don’t allow changing the lock screen wallpaper directly, activating the screensaver personalises what appears when your device goes to sleep, or the lid is closed.
With this simple setup, your Chromebook will showcase your favourite photos or artwork whenever it’s locked. It’s a small touch, but it can make your device feel more unique.
