ChatGPT is a powerful and versatile chatbot that can generate engaging and natural conversations on various topics. But the only drawback is that the OpenAI’s LLM’s can present facts up to 2021.

So, if you want to write an essay or know some facts about recent events, ChatGPT may not be of much help. It would be awesome if you could connect ChatGPT to the internet and quickly get relevant, AI-assisted information.

Well, you’re in luck as in this article, we are here with two methods by which you can connect ChatGPT to the internet and enjoy the AI assistant to the fullest.

Method 1: Use a ChatGPT plugin

Another method to connect ChatGPT to the internet is using the WebPilot plugin available for GPT. For plugins to work in ChatGPT, you must buy a subscription to ChatGPT Plus.

After you have subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, follow the instructions given below for adding the plugin:

Step 1: Click Settings and Beta at the bottom of the left panel.

Method 2: Use WebChatGPT

WebChatGPT is a popular extension that enhances the functionality of ChatGPT by providing web results, extracting webpage text, and offering prompt templates.

Here’s how to add WebChatGPT on Google Chrome:

Step 1: Head to the WebChatGPT page on the Chrome Web Store and click on Add to ‘name of your web browser’. Here, I am using Brave to see the Add to Brave option.

Step 2: Next, Brave (or any browser you’re using) might warn you that it reviews extensions for security and safety. Ignore that warning and click on Add extension.

After you have completed the second step, the system will automatically open ChatGPT, and you will see a Web Access toggle at the bottom. Take a look at the screenshot below:

Now, if you give any prompt to the AI assistant, you will receive a much more updated answer with sources. For example, I gave the following prompt to ChatGPT: Give me a 300-word report on the G20 Summit happening in India. Below is a screenshot of the quality of the answer that GPT-3.5 generated:

Given the limitations of GPT-3.5, the answer may not look well-formed, but it is much better than GPT-3.5 without the internet.

Method 3: Use ChatGPT on Bing

Another method to connect ChatGPT to the internet is by using it on Edge. Here’s how you can do that:

Step 1: Open Edge and then click on the Bing Chat button at the top-right side of the window. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + .

Step 2: Next, give a proper prompt, set a tone and select a format and length for the article, blog post, essay, letter or any other literary writing you’re trying to accomplish. After you are finished, click on Generate draft and let GPT-4 do its job.

I prefer Method 3 as you get the power of GPT-4 for free, alongwith the sources from the internet and the latest information from the Bing search engine.

In conclusion, ChatGPT is a powerful tool in itself, but you can increase the power of the tool many folds by connecting it to the internet. Use the three methods mentioned above to get the most out of the AI chat assistant.
