Today, Microsoft introduced the Copilot key to Windows 11 PCs and laptops, offering a more personalised user experience.
With the introduction of Copilot last year, Microsoft has placed Copilot at the forefront of every new launch. Windows Copilot is already integrated into Bing and Edge, and with the 22H2 update, it is just a click away on Windows 11.
“In this new year, we will be ushering in a significant shift toward a more personal and intelligent computing future where AI will be seamlessly woven into Windows from the system, to the silicon, to the hardware,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft. “This will not only simplify people’s computing experience but also amplify it, making 2024 the year of the AI PC.”
One of the noteworthy aspects of this integration is a Copilot key on the Windows keyboard, marking the first significant change to the periphery in nearly three decades. The key will be positioned alongside the Windows key and launch the Copilot in a jiffy.

Microsoft collaborates with industry leaders AMD, Intel and Qualcomm to lay the groundwork for a new Windows AI experience. This will involve integrating GPU, CPU, NPU, and cloud capabilities to create a novel system architecture.
It had been reported earlier that Microsoft is also planning to switch to a cloud-based Windows. It will be interesting to see how Copilot fares on the new cloud Windows once it arrives.
The new keyboards are set to be released from late February through Spring. There is no information on which OEMs will integrate the Copilot key. Also, it is unclear whether this key will be a standalone feature or can be combined with other keys.
In December, Microsoft launched a dedicated Copilot app for Android with the iOS version in the pipeline, targeting the massive mobile consumer market.
