A modem or router is by far one of the most important components of your home or office network. It allows you to host wireless networks and distribute your internet connection to different devices in the vicinity. This also means that if your router starts acting up, you can find yourself in trouble.

What causes this error?
On Cox modems, a blinking green light indicates that the modem or router can’t connect to upstream networks, basically meaning you’ve got a non-active or unstable internet connection at hand. Common causes include:
- Damage to incoming coax cables.
- Issues with your signal splitter.
- Issues with your ISP.

How to fix this?
Here are eight fixes you can try out.
Restart the router
One of the first things you should do in these situations is restart your router. Restarting internet devices can fix seemingly random issues that cause connectivity problems, including the this one. Just turn off your router (and modem) and wait for at least 30 seconds before turning it back on again.
Check the WAN cable for damage
If your incoming WAN cable is damaged, your internet connection will be disturbed. Check to see if the cable (usually coax) is properly connected and that there is no physical damage to the cable. If you find some damage, reach out to Cox support to get their help repairing or fixing the cable.
Check for a firmware upgrade
Check to see if there are any new firmware upgrades or updates for your router and if there are, install them right away before trying again. More often than not, router manufacturers will publish frequent updates for their devices that can fix any reoccurring glitches.
Get another modem
Since the primary cause of the issue is the modem itself, switch to another modem in case you have one lying around to see if that fixes the problem, If you can use the router without any problems, your previous modem is at fault here and you should get a replacement from Cox in case you’re using the default modem provided.

Check the splitter
Cox will usually install a splitter alongside your internet connection that ‘splits’ the connection into WiFi, TV and phone. If there’s a problem with this splitter, it can impact the inbound internet signals to your router. Check to see if the splitter is functioning properly and now showing signs of defects, including overheating and mechanical damage.
Check for outages

Factory reset the router
Most routers have a reset button at the back which will reset the router to its default settings. If you’ve misconfigured some settings on your router or have been impacted by a bug or virus, resetting your router can fix these issues. Do remember that you’ll have to reconfigure the router with the credentials given by your ISP.
