Access to the internet has increasingly become easier over the past decade as wireless technologies have evolved — bringing mobile internet speeds at par with what’s offered by broadband services over WiFi. As 5G adaptation increases worldwide, these wireless internet speeds are only going to go up.
While broadband is the best way to go if you’re at home or office as it offers a much more stable connection, it’s not surprising if your internet service provider isn’t able to do their best at keeping the speeds up all the time.
If you’re facing issues with your WiFi connection or can’t find one for your laptop or tablet while travelling, here is how you can turn on your iPhone’s personal hotspot and use its 4G or 5G internet speeds to surf on other devices, including laptops, tablets and other smartphones.

Enabling/disabling your iPhone’s personal hotspot
Open your iPhone’s Settings and follow the steps mentioned below to turn on its personal hotspot.
- Tap on Personal Hotspot.
- On the next page, tap on the toggle button beside Allow Others to Join to turn on your iPhone’s personal hotspot.
You can use the same toggle button to disable the hotspot when you don’t need it running actively.
Any other devices that are signed in to your iCloud account can connect to your personal hotspot without entering the password.
If you want to change the password that’s required to connect to your iPhone’s personal hotspot, you can do so by tapping on the Wi-Fi Password option below the toggle button and changing the password on the next page.

How to connect to iPhone’s personal hotspot?
You can connect to iPhone’s personal hotspot using any of the three methods below.
- WiFi: You can search for your iPhone’s network name on your laptop or any other device’s WiFi network settings, enter the password and connect directly.
- Bluetooth: Alternatively, you can also pair the device to the iPhone using Bluetooth and share the internet.
- USB: If neither of the aforementioned wireless methods works for you, you can also connect your iPhone to the laptop using the lightning to USB cable and follow the on-screen instructions to use iPhone’s internet on the laptop via the hotspot.
