Google Play Store vouchers are a handy thing in case you want to send some virtual cash over to your friends to buy apps/games and rent movies or books. They’re also often used as gifts.
While the whole idea of a gift voucher relies on the fact that they’re convenient for both the sender and the receiver, redeeming these voucher codes can sometimes be problematic. In this article, we’re going over a few fixes you can try if you’re having trouble redeeming vouchers in Google Play.

Check the code
The first thing you should do if you get an error while redeeming a voucher code is to check if you’re entering the right code. Errors like these are quite rare and often arise from an incorrectly typed code.
Make sure you’ve got all the characters and the case right. Another thing to check is the validity of the code as vouchers tend to expire after a given time period.
Check your Play Store credit limit
Google imposes a credit limit on some accounts which limits the maximum available balance you can have in your Play Store account. In fact, there are even limits around how much you can spend in a given period.
If you suspect this might be the case with you, try spending some of your account balance or waiting a day or two to check if your code gets redeemed.

Confirm your Google account
Voucher codes that you’ve received as a gift or that you’ve brought for yourself are locked to a particular Google account. If you’re logged into the Play Store with a different account, there’s a good chance that the code won’t work. In such cases, it’s best to check which Google account the code is tied to, and ensure that you’ve logged in with the same account in Play Store.
Singing out of your Google account and signing back in can also help resolve issues with the Play Store.
- Head over to your phone’s settings and tap on Accounts.
- Tap your Google account.
- Tap Remove account.
Now go ahead and add your account back again.
Check your Google Pay account data
Lastly, incorrect or incomplete Google Pay account data can also cause problems not just while redeeming codes but also when making payments. Check to see if your payment details are set correctly and that the voucher code purchase transaction went smoothly.
If it didn’t, chances are the payment for your voucher hasn’t been processed by Google yet meaning the code is technically inactive.
