Every device has a unique IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity), which is used to identify that device. These are found in GSM, WCDMA, iDEN and satellite phones. While traditionally phones have had only one IMEI number, but with the recent trend of dual-sim smartphones as well as feature phones, several devices have two IMEI numbers.
IMEI numbers are used by network providers to identify valid devices as well as aid in tracking phones in case they’re stolen. So, it’s always recommended to note down the IMEI number of your device.
An iPhone’s IMEI number can be found at the back of its box beside the label IMEI/MEID with a barcode underneath. However, if you’ve misplaced the box or the IMEI number has gotten scratched off, here we’ve put together a simple guide to help you find the IMEI number of your iPhone via Settings or dialling a code.

How to find the IMEI number of your iPhone via code?
To find your iPhone’s IMEI number, go to the Phone app, open the Keypad and type *#06#. Your iPhone’s IMEI number will be displayed (as shown in the screenshot below; press the call button if the IMEI number doesn’t appear by typing the code).
This code will help you find the IMEI number of any phone. However, if this doesn’t work, you can also find the IMEI number of your iPhone via the device’s Settings, as shown below.
How to find the IMEI number of your iPhone via Settings?
- Go to your iPhone’s Settings and tap on General.
- On the next page, tap on About.
- On the next page, scroll down to find your iPhone’s IMEI number.
