Why should you know the serial number on Nintendo Switch?
To distinguish between models
When the Switch Lite was made available for purchase, Nintendo also started selling a refreshed model of the Switch — commonly called the Red Box Switch. This model has a more efficient processor and faster RAM, when compared to the original, which translates to better battery life.
The serial numbers on these models start with XKW, so one should keep an eye out for this information when buying a brand new or pre-owned Switch.
To set up Joy-Con repairs
Apart from services related to the main console, the serial number on your Switch is also required to set up Joy-Con repairs. These tiny controllers have been plagued with a joystick drift issue since launch, if one faces this issue, to submit a support request a Switch’s serial number is a mandatory requirement.
