Google Translate’s instant camera has been updated with support for 60 more languages. Now the app can translate from a total of 88 languages into 100+ languages including Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, Nepali, Sindhi, Pashto, Thai, Arabic, Malay and Vietnamese.
Before this update, users could only translate between English and other languages, but now with the support of 100+ languages, users can translate from Japanese to Chinese, Hindi to French and more.
Besides the addition of new languages to the Google Translate app, two other features have also been introduced in the update, which are as follows:
- Detect Language: Another feature added in this update is to detect language, which can be true bliss for travellers. Per se, you encounter a signboard and don’t know what language it is, select Detect language as the source language in the app, and it will automatically detect the language and then translate into your preferred language.
- NMT tech: Google is also using Neural Machine Translation (NMT) technology in the instant camera translation app, which reduces errors by up to 85 percent. The app also allows users to download most of the languages on their device to enable using the service even without an internet connection. However, the company also mentions that the accuracy of the translations is higher when connected to the internet.
In addition to the updates mentioned above, the app has also received cosmetic changes with a fresh and more intuitive look. The flickering of the translated text has also been reduced.
