Change password on macOS

Step 1: Click on the Apple menu, and then in the dropdown menu, click on System Settings.
Step 2: In the sidebar, click on Users & Groups and click on the i (info) button beside your username.
Step 3: Click on Change password.
Step 4: Then, enter the current password in the Old password field and enter the new password, verify it, enter the hint to help you remember the password, and click on the Change password button.

Use the Apple ID to reset the login password
If you have forgotten your password and are stuck on the login screen, you can use your Apple ID password to reset your login password. Follow the steps below to use your Apple ID to reset the login password.
Step 1: Click on the Question mark icon beside the password field.
Step 2: Click on the Right Arrow icon beside reset it using your Apple ID.
Step 3: Enter your Apple ID and password and click Next.
Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your Mac password.
Reset a Mac password with another admin account
If you use a Mac that belongs to someone else or is owned by a company, and the backup with your Apple ID doesn’t work, you can ask the person in charge (admin) to make a new password for you and help you log in again.
Step 1: Log in to the alternative user account or admin account.
Step 2: Click on the Apple menu and then in the dropdown menu click on System Settings.
Step 3: In the sidebar, click on Users & Groups.
Step 4: Select the account you want to change the password and then click Reset Password.
Step 5: Enter the new password and hit Enter.
Step 6: Log out of the admin account and restart your Mac and log in with the new password.
