Macs are great machines that are well-built and perform well. Of course, Apple’s software prowess also ties together the hardware in a really enjoyable manner, making macOS a breeze to use. However, some basic actions might still require a little explanation.

In this article, we’re talking about how to delete bookmarks you no longer need from a Mac.

Deleting bookmarks in Chrome on Mac

If you’re using Google Chrome on your Mac, the process for deleting bookmarks is the same as on any other device. You can delete bookmarks using either

  • The Bookmark Bar or
  • The Bookmark Manager

Just follow these steps.

  1. Using the Bookmark Bar

The quickest way of deleting a bookmark is to remove it from the Bookmark bar itself. It appears under the search bar on the top and contains your most frequented websites. Note that if you don’t see the bookmark bar appear, you can use the Command + Shift + B keyboard shortcut to get it out.

Once you can see the bookmark bar, right-click the shortcut, you want to delete and click the Delete option from the context menu. Remember that this method works for all Chromium-based browsers, meaning you can use it on Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi and just about every browser that uses Google’s engine.

Using the Bookmark Manager

If you need to get rid of multiple bookmarks at once or organise them properly, you will need to use Chrome’s built-in Bookmark Manager. Follow these steps to get rid of your unwanted bookmarks quickly.

Step 1: Open the Bookmark Manager by clicking the three vertical dots in the top right, followed by Bookmarks and then Bookmark Manager. Alternatively, you can also use the Ctrl + Shift + O keyboard shortcut.

Step 2: Now, you can go through all the saved bookmarks and delete them using the Delete button in the top right. You can select multiple bookmarks by holding down Shift or Command and clicking the bookmarks you want to delete or select all of them by pressing Command + A. If you want to delete a particular custom folder, right-click the folder itself and click Delete from the context menu.

Note that this method might behave differently on different browsers, even if they’re based on Chromium. For example, there’s no Bookmark Manager on Edge and pressing Command + Shift + O takes you to the Favourites window instead. From there, you can launch the Favourites tab and delete bookmarks as described in step two above.

Deleting bookmarks in Firefox on Mac

Last, if you’re using Firefox on your Mac, follow these steps to delete any extra bookmarks.

Step 1: Open Firefox and click the Bookmarks menu, then Show All Bookmarks.

Step 2: Library window containing all of your Firefox bookmarks will appear. Select the ones you want to delete, right-click them and select Delete.
