Much like Android devices, Chromebooks also have a Camera app that can be used to click photos, capture videos and GIFs and also scan documents or QR codes. However, if you’ve been using it for a while, chances are you’ve accumulated a fair share of images and videos that you don’t really need or use.

If you’re running low on storage, the best way to make some space is by deleting unwanted files, including deleting downloaded files. Other than that, you can also delete images from the camera roll as well as images downloaded via Play Store apps.

Here we’ve discussed the following three ways to delete images on Chromebook:

How to delete images on Chromebook via Files?

One of the easiest ways to delete images on a Chromebook, including audio, image, video, or document, is the native file manager app Files. While third-party apps like File Manager can delete any files on Chromebook, the Files app works just fine.

Step 1: Open the Files app on your Chromebook.

Step 2: Click on the Camera folder. Then select the images or image folders you’d like to delete. You can select either a single image or multiple images. Then click on the Trash Bin icon from the toolbar — at the top-right.

Like Windows, you can use the combination of Shift + Arrow keys or Ctrl + left mouse button to select multiple images.

You’ll see a confirmation that the selected items have been moved to the Trash folder.

Step 3: To permanently delete these files, go to the Trash folder and click on the Empty trash now option.

Alternatively, you can permanently select and delete individual files from the Trash folder.

Step 4: Select Delete Forever, and the images will be permanently deleted from your Chromebook.

How to restore deleted images on Chromebook?

If you’ve deleted an image by mistake, you can also restore it from the Trash folder — introduced in the Chrome 76 OS update, unless you’ve deleted a Play Store app file. As mentioned above, these files don’t go to the trash folder but are permanently deleted instantly.

Follow the steps mentioned below to restore deleted images on your Chromebook.

  • To restore an image or file, go to the Trash folder.
  • Then select the images or files you’d like to restore.
  • Right-click on them and select the Restore from Trash option.

The images will be returned to the Camera folder. Any other file will be restored to the folders they were deleted from in the first place.
