The free phone service, Textnow, was founded in 2009 and currently boasts over 100 million downloads in over two dozen countries where it’s available.
The company’s popularity grew leaps and bounds in the first few years of inception with it gaining the first million active users within a year and another 15 million users by 2011. They also raised $1.5 million in seed funding the same year.
While the app is a great innovative idea and helped a lot of people communicate for much cheaper than traditional alternatives by harnessing the power of the internet, it still might not work out for everyone.
If you want to delete their Textnow account but can’t figure out how to do that, we’ve got a few tips that might help.
Unfortunately, Textnow doesn’t allow people to delete their account directly. The only two ways to disassociate the account from your information is by editing your profile info or contacting Textnow.
While deleting call logs, messages and conversations are pretty easy in the app, deleting your Textnow account isn’t easy at all.

Edit your profile information
As mentioned above, there’s no straightforward way to delete Textnow account. The only workaround is to edit the profile information in-app and then delete the app for good.
Editing your profile and changing things like your name and email address will make your profile information unusable.
To edit your Textnow profile information, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the app’s main menu using the button in the upper-left corner.
- Select Settings.
- Select Account.
- Change your First name, Last name and Email.
- Hit the Save button.
It’s recommended that you either create a new email to enter in the field or use a temporary one that stays for an hour to a day to verify it as the new Textnow email; else, the app might revert to the original email.
You should also head over to Security & Login and select Log out of all devices to be safe.
It’s also important to note that if you’re subscribed to Textnow, you’ll have to manually cancel those subscriptions via the App Store or Play Store.

Deactivate your account
Once you’ve changed your information, you can also deactivate your account by simply uninstalling the app. Once your number is inactive for a few weeks, it’ll automatically be removed from the account and will no longer be available to accept messages or calls.
You can reactivate your account anytime by downloading the app and signing back into the account.
Contact Textnow
If editing your information doesn’t work for you and you really want to get your Textnow account deleted, you should contact them.
You can contact Textnow at their Waterloo office via snail mail or pay them a visit (or maybe have your lawyers do it for you if you really want to get rid of the account.)
