Apple watches are some of the best smartwatches on the planet. Outside of exception connectivity, build quality, features and battery life, they’re also supported by Apple’s Find My network which can help you find lost Apple and other supported third-party devices.

In this article, we’re discussing whether you can locate your Apple watch if its battery has run out.

Locating an out-of-battery Apple Watch

Losing your Apple Watch can be a rather daunting thing. Keep in mind that Apple Watches use their cellular or WiFi connectivity to transmit their locations when lost. That said, there are some fail safes you can try should your watch run out of battery when lost.

First up, we recommend activating Lost Mode on your Apple Watch. Even if it’s out of battery, the Find My network will show you the location of the watch for a brief period. If you miss that window, you’ll still be able to see the last known location of the watch on the map.

You can use the Find My network on the iCloud website or use the Find My app on your iPhone. Once you’re in the app or on the website, log in with your Apple ID and select your Apple Watch. You’ll see a few options here, including activating Lost Mode by marking the watch as lost, pinging its location or resetting the watch remotely. This is also where you’ll be able to see the watch’s last known location.

If someone else finds your Apple Watch and turns it on, they’ll see your contact information on the screen and the watch will ping its location on the Find My map. Lost Mode also protects your data with a PIN code, meaning in case your watch lands up with someone else, you don’t need to worry about leaking any sensitive information you might have on the watch itself.
