Slack, the cloud-based team collaboration service, that turned five this year and has amassed over 10 million daily active users, with new ones added each day. The service boasts of 1500 apps and integrations with companies like Salesforce, Atlassian, Google, among several others.
If you’re new to Slack and are just figuring out your way around, here we’ve put together a simple guide that’ll help you invite new users to your Slack Workspace both via PC and the Slack app. Users with a paid subscription can also invite guest members to their workplace and can restrict them to specific Channels as well.
Note: It is possible that your Slack Workplace owner or admin has turned off the permission for other members to invite someone to Slack. In that case, you’ll need to contact the admin or owner of the Slack Workplace to invite the person. If you’re an owner or admin, follow the guide below to invite or delete members from Slack.
How to invite someone to Slack via PC?
Follow the steps below to invite someone to Slack via its web app on PC. You can invite people on PC using two methods — either invite them by adding their email address or simply send an invitation link. We’ll talk about both below. Step 1: Log into your Slack account. Find Invite people in the sidebar and click on it.
Step 2: On the next page, you’ll see a box to input email address and another optional box for the name. Enter the values and then click on the Send invitations button. That’s it, your invitations will be sent to the email addresses you’ve entered, and the users will be able to join your Slack Workplace by following the link in the email.

An alternative method to invite someone to Slack
Step 2 (Alternative): You can also send an invitation link to the person you wish to invite to your Slack Workplace. On the same page as above, you’ll find Get an invitation link to share at the bottom — to the left of Send invitations button. Click on that, and you’ll be redirected to a new page. Step 3: On the next page, you’ll have to create the invitation link. Select the number of days you would like the link to stay active — 1 day, 7 days, 30 days — or you can also choose to set the link never to expire. Once you’ve selected the time, click on the Create invitation link button.
On the next page, you’ll see the link that you just created. You can now copy and send it to the person you wish to invite via text or any social media/messenger app. They’ll be able to join your Workspace by following the link.
Note that there is also a Deactivate link available right below your Slack invitation link. If you think you’ve set the wrong expiration time, you can deactivate the link and start over again. You can also choose to receive a Slackbot message every time a users joins your Slack Workplace using the link create above.
How to invite someone to Slack via Android or iOS app?
Unlike the web app on PC, Slack’s Android and iOS app only allows users to invite someone to their Slack Workplace via email. Follow the steps below to invite someone to Slack via an Android or iOS device.
- Open the app and tap on the ‘three-dot’ menu button located at the top-right of the display.
- From the drop-down menu, tap on Invite people.
- On the next page, enter the email address. You can also search the person from your device’s contact list and auto-fill this information.
- Tap on Send.
The email addresses entered here will receive an invitation to join your Slack Workplace.

How to delete a member from your Slack Workplace?
If the work of one of your Slack members is done and you wish to deactivate their access to your channels or if you think you invited the wrong person to your Slack Workplace, you can deactivate their account via Settings. You’ll need to login to your Slack Workplace via PC and follow the steps below to get this done. Step 1: Tap on your and the Slack Workplace’s name at the top-left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear. Click on Administration and then Manage members. Step 2: On the next page, you’ll see a list of the members on your Slack Workplace. Scroll down to the name of the member you wish to delete from your Slack channels and click on the horizontal ‘triple-dot’ button to the extreme right of their name. From the drop-down menu, click on Deactivate account.
Following this, the member will be deleted from your Slack Workplace and won’t be able to access any of the past messages or see activities in any of the channels.
