Discord is a rather popular VoIP program that first set out to be a communications program for gamers but since then has evolved to include a much larger audience.
Apart from having voice and video calls and text messaging, Discord also has many features, including the ability to create private servers with your friends and hang out with them whenever you want.

Creating a welcome channel
While creating a channel in Discord is as easy as a few clicks and keyboard strokes, unless you’re planning on personally wishing everyone who joins your server, you’re going to need a bot.
There are two ways to do this. You either use Discord’s built-in functions or use a third-party bot. We’ll be going over both ways.
Using Discord’s settings
If you’d like to use Discord’s settings. Follow these steps.
Step 1: Open Discord and create a channel by either clicking the plus icon in front of a category name or clicking on the server name and selecting Create channel.
Step 2: Give the channel an appropriate name, make sure the type is selected as Text Channel and that the Private Channel slider is disabled.
Step 3: Open Server Settings by clicking the server name.
Step 4: Under System Messages Channel, select your welcome channel and enable the Send a random welcome message when someone joins this server slider.
Using a third-party bot
You can either code one or pick from several bots available for a number of things on Discord. For the sake of simplicity, we’ll be using the MEE6 bot.
Step 1: Open Discord and create a channel by either clicking the plus icon in front of a category name or clicking on the server name and selecting Create channel.
Step 2: Give the channel an appropriate name, make sure the type is selected as Text Channel and that the Private Channel slider is disabled.
Step 3: Head over to the MEE6 site and log in. Select the server you just created the welcome channel for to proceed.
Note that if you haven’t already added MEE6 to your server, you’ll first have to go through an automated setup process.
Step 4: Scroll down to Server Management and click Welcome.
Step 5: Enable the Send a message when a user joins the server toggle, select your welcome message channel, and type in your welcome message. Make sure to click the Save button when you’re done.
