How to restart Discord?

Discord started as a VOIP program made for gamers but since then has evolved into a much wider platform with a lot more functionality for just about anyone who wants to hang out online with their friends.

How to restart Discord on Windows?

Since Discord doesn’t get closed when you close it on PC (it minimises to the tray instead), you’re going to have to either kill it from the task manager or shut it from the system tray. Here’s how.

Close Discord from the System Tray

To close Discord from the System Tray, open it, right-click the Discord icon and click Quit Discord. You can then restart Discord from the Start menu or a desktop shortcut.

Step 1: Right-click the Taskbar and click on Task Manager.

Step 2: Find the Discord process and end it using the End task button in the bottom right.

Now restart Discord from the Start menu or a desktop shortcut.

How to restart Discord on macOS?

Here’s how you can restart Discord on a macOS device.

Step 1: With Discord open, go to the Apple Menu and click Force Quit.

Step 2: In the Force Quit Applications menu, find Discord, select it and click the Force Quit button.

Now you can restart Discord using the Launchpad.


How to restart Discord on smartphones?

If you’re using Discord on your phone, here’s what you need to do.

On Android

We’re going to force stop Discord and start it again as usual. Here’s how.

  • Open Settings on your phone and head to Apps.
  • Tap See all apps.
  • Find Discord in the list and tap it to proceed.
  • Tap Force stop.

Now you can start Discord as usual.


On iOS

On iOS, you can close Discord by swiping up from the bottom and removing Discord from the list of recently open apps. Once you’ve done that, you can go ahead and tap the Discord icon to restart the app.
