JioCinema has launched a premium plan that will include all original content from HBO and Warner Bros. at ₹999 annual subscription plan, after announcing the partnership last month.
JioCinema’s fame has grown widespread after the recent free streaming of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and the current free streaming of IPL 2023 on their app. The major sports events could be viewed on all Android, iOS, and desktop devices. Some of JioCinema’s free content will continue to remain on their platform, available to all.
As HBO and Warner Bros. quit Disney + Hotstar earlier this year, JioCinema has moved in to replace the popular OTT platform with a cheaper annual subscription plan announced specifically for the shows and movies of HBO and Warner Bros.
Now, viewers will be flocking to JioCinema to watch HBO originals that include House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Euphoria, Succession, and many more. However, the platform itself leaves much to be desired as far as the user interface is concerned.
Currently, the annual ₹999 is the only premium plan being offered by the company, which will be bringing out more cost-effective and affordable plans for Indian viewers. This plan will also be accessible across four devices, a loot when compared to the four devices plan of Disney + Hotstar which charges ₹1499 annually.
The multi-year deal was signed late in April this year, making JioCinema the sole platform in India to stream HBO, HBO Max original, and Warner Bros. content. As the stream has now been officially launched under the annual subscription plan on JioCinema, one wonders if the plan was made affordable to attract Indians to the content first and make it worth their while — similar to how Jio disrupted the telecom market. The free offering of this season’s IPL has already drawn and introduced millions to the platform. Before this, JioCinema also streamed the FIFA World Cup.
