Nord Security gears up for an enterprise browser launch

Nord Security, creators of the popular NordVPN and NordLayer security platforms, has announced a new enterprise browser with enhanced security features and controls for businesses. No specific launch date has been announced yet, but interested parties can sign up at NordLayer’s website.

This isn’t your typical privacy or security-focused browser like Brave, DuckDuckGo, or Avast Secure Browser either. NordLayer’s enterprise browser features centralised security controls and policies that let system admins monitor data and set policies to protect a company’s sensitive data. Nord hasn’t explained whether the browser is using an existing base like the Chromium or Firefox engines. Still, from the amount of security-focussed controls and features they’re offering, this seems to be an utterly in-house product. Regardless, we’ll have to wait for the full release to know more.

In addition to providing high-level observability and full-scale incident response features, the browser also offers a combination of ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access) and SWG (Secure Web Gateway) features merged into one platform and combined with NordLayer’s security features. You also get controls for copy-past functionality, camera and mic use, as well as prevention of unauthorised downloads and uploads.

Nord claims that the browser is designed to scale with the business. If your company switches to their flashy new enterprise browser, it won’t hinder you as you scale up workflows or slow down employee productivity. That said, IT departments will have a field day setting up all the browser’s policies and controls.

So why not just a regular secure browser like the ones mentioned above? Well, web browsers have become an indispensable tool in modern workflows. Research suggests that 50% of workers can perform their entire job using a web browser, and 80% can do 80% of their work through a browser. With more workspaces adopting a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy, having a browser that can be centrally managed can do wonders for security.

To be clear, Nord’s browser isn’t the only one offering such control. Chrome also lets IT admins deploy the browser across Windows, macOS, and Linux systems with over 200 policies that control anything from extensions to downloads, as well as general security and privacy. Nord’s browser could have a massive advantage here, considering it’ll provide unified access to the company’s entire suite of online protection tools, including NordVPN, NordLayer, NordPass, and NordStellar.

It remains to be seen just how much NordLayer’s enterprise browser will stand out from the offerings currently available. Until then, feel free to sign up for the waitlist at NordLayer’s website.
