Twitter is a fast-paced social networking platform with a lot of conversations about a lot of topics and issues happening at once. It’s not uncommon to see one of your posts explode and a barrage of new followers looking for follow-up tweets from you. While new followers every so often might feel good, not everyone who follows you might like what you tweet and some may even be vocal to the point of harassing you in replies to your tweets.
While Twitter now allows users to switch off replies to a tweet or only allow people mentioned in the tweets or otherwise to reply, if you’re being pestered by one of your followers and would rather have them unfollow your account, you can make that happen.
Although there is no direct way to remove a follower from Twitter, you can make that happen via a workaround.
If you block someone on Twitter, their account automatically unfollows yours (and if you’re following them, you’ll unfollow them as well).
Once you’ve blocked someone on Twitter, they can’t follow you or view your tweets unless you’ve tweeted something mentioning them and they’re reporting you on Twitter. Blocked users can’t send you direct messages, view your following or followers lists, likes, lists, Moments you’ve created. They also can’t tag your in photos or add your account to their lists.
