Accidentally deleting an app on your phone can be frustrating, especially if it’s a rather big or important app. Well, fortunately enough, deleting the app icon from your phone’s home screen doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve removed the app as well.

In this article, we’re talking about how you can recover deleted apps and app icons.

How to restore app icons on Android?

Here are eight methods to help restore app icons on Android.

Restart your phone

Restarting your phone can fix a bunch of problems with it, including missing app icons.. Give your device a quick restart and see if it restores the missing app icon.

Check your app drawer

If you’re missing an app icon on your home screen, be sure to check your app drawer to see if the app is still on your phone.

If the app is installed and present in the app drawer, you can simply long-tap the icon, and your home screen will appear. Place the icon wherever you want, and you’re good to go.

Try a new launcher

If you’re having issues with the stock launcher on your phone, we recommend you try out one of the many third-party launchers available on the Google Play Store.

You can try out Nova, Apex or Hyperion Launcher to customise the entire look and feel of your phone in several ways. These launchers will also make it easy for you to find, place and customise icons for just about any app on your phone.

Long press on your home screen

Some launchers and skins allow users to add app shortcuts straight from the home screen. Try long-tapping your home screen and go through the options that appear.

There’ll be options to add widgets, change the wallpaper, view home settings and, if you’re lucky, to add an app shortcut. Select that option and add the app you want.

Re-enable disabled apps

If you’ve disabled an app, you won’t be able to see its icon on the home screen or in the app drawer. Follow these steps to re-enable such apps.

  • Head over to your phone settings and tap on Apps & notifications.
  • Tap on Show all apps.
  • Find your app in the list and tap on it to proceed.
  • Tap on the Enable button, and the app will show up in the app drawer.

From here, you can add the icon back to the home screen by long-tapping it and placing it on the home screen.

If you have a launcher or UI that allows you to hide apps, you’ll face the same situation. Unhide the app to see it in the app drawer and place its icon on the home screen.

Reset the default launcher

If you’re not using any third-party launchers, resetting your default launcher can also help fix any missing app icons on your phone.

Check if you’ve deleted the app

If you accidentally deleted the entire app instead of just its shortcut from the home screen, you’re going to have to download the app again from the Play Store to be able to place it on your home screen.

Head over to the Play Store and search for the app you want. If you see an Update or Open button instead of Install, you’ve removed the app. Download it again, and Android will automatically place a shortcut on your home screen.
