How to share files on Dropbox?

Dropbox is a cloud-based storage service where you can store your data. Apart from that, the company provides a lot of other services which you can select as per your requirement. Dropbox makes it easier for you to share the files and folders with other person or a group and is especially beneficial for office work.

Dropbox was founded by two MIT graduates in 2007 and since then has emerged one of the leading cloud-based storage service providers. In this article, we explain how you can share the files and folders on Dropbox website, mobile app, desktop app as well as from the dropbox folder.

Share files on Dropbox website

To share files on the Dropbox website, follow the steps mentioned below. Step 1: Sign in to Dropbox.

Step 2: Now, click on the Files option at the left sidebar menu.Step 3: After that, hover the mouse cursor on the file that you want to share. A Share option will appear on the right. Click on the Share option. Step 4: Enter the email of the person with whom you want to share the file. You can also type the name of the person or the group that you want to share the file. Step 5: After this, click on Share option at the bottom right.

You can also create a link to your file. To create the link, click on the Create Link option at the bottom right of the window. Once the link is created, you can then copy the link on some relevant platform.

Note: You can only send the email to other Dropbox user. This means that the other person with whom you are sharing the file, should have a Dropbox account. But when you are sharing the link, the person with no Dropbox account can also view the files. You can check the screenshot above. This person that I have shared the file with doesn’t have a Dropbox account.

Share files via the Dropbox phone app

If you are using the Dropbox mobile app, follow the instructions given below to share the files.

  • Open the Dropbox mobile app.
  • Tap on the three-dot button at the right of the file or folder that you want to share.
  • Type the email, name or group of the person. You can also generate the link to your file or folder.
  • Tap on Share.

Share files via the Dropbox computer app

To share the files and folders using the Dropbox computer app, follow the instruction given below.

  • Open the Dropbox computer app.
  • Right-click on the file or folder that you want to share.
  • From the drop-down menu, select the Share option.

  • Now, enter the email of the person or type the name of the person or group that you want to share the file. You can also generate the link, as explained in the previous steps.
  • Click on Share.

Share files via the Dropbox folder

Dropbox folder is automatically synced with your account. So, any changes that you make to the files here will be reflected on the account and vice-versa. To share the files or folders using the Dropbox folder, follow the steps mentioned below.

  • Locate the Dropbox app.
  • Right-click on the file or folder that you want to share.
  • From the drop-down menu, select the Share option with the Dropbox sign.

  • Now, enter the email of the person or type the name of the person or group that you want to share with. You can also generate the link, as explained in the previous steps.
  • Click on the Send button at the top right of the screen.

Note: Dropbox allows you to import the contacts. If you want to share the file by writing the name of the person instead of email, then you will have to import the contact first.
