What does Smite do in Minecraft?

Minecraft offers many ways to players to make their weapons stronger, including crafting new weapons, armour, potions and enchanting items. Enchantments are particularly helpful as they can strengthen the weapon and increase its damage.

One such enchantment in Minecraft is called Smite, which is especially useful for increasing the damage of weapons. Smite is a commonly used enchantment to fight the undead.

Here are a few key points you need to know about Smite enchantments

  • Smite enchantment is available till level V (five) — higher the level, more damage increment for the weapons.
  • Each additional level of the Smite enchantment increases weapon damage by 2.5 (1.25 hearts).
  • You can’t combine Smite enchantment with Bane of Arthropods or Sharpness enchantments.
  • You can fight off zombies, skeletons, withers, strays, husks, phantoms, drowned and zoglins using Smite enchantment on your weapon.

How to enchant a weapon with Smite?

You can use an enchanting table, game command or anvil to add Smite enchantment to an axe or sword.

Once you’ve got the enchanted weapon, you’ll need to hold it in your hand for the improved attack strength to work against undead mobs.
