Spotify has acquired Podz and will leverage its tools to make it easier to discover Podcasts on the platform, the company announced on Thursday.

Podz is a podcast discovery app that recommends a customised list of three podcasts daily from the people’s subscriptions on Android and iOS.

Spotify says that they’ve been working on making podcast discovery better for over a decade, but more work needs to be done, and that’s where they expect the Podz team and technology to help them.

Integration of Podz elements into Spotify is expected to roll out by the end of the year.

“We are investing to build and scale the world’s best (and most personalised) podcast discovery experience—and we’ve acquired Podz, a small, talented team of entrepreneurs, engineers, and designers, to help make that experience even better,” Spotify announced. “We believe that Podz’ technology will complement and accelerate Spotify’s focused efforts to drive discovery, deliver listeners the right content at the right time, and accelerate growth of the category worldwide.”

Podz generates clips that help users preview key moments from podcast episodes, making it easier to discover podcasts that may interest people.

Spotify currently houses 2.6 million podcasts, and the acquisition of Podz is expected to make it easier for people to find, preview and follow podcasts that could interest them the most and keep tabs on interesting stuff from their subscriptions.

On Wednesday, Spotify announced that they’re launching Spotify Greenroom, its live audio app, in 135 markets on Android and iOS. The Clubhouse rival from Spotify will be a redesigned version of the popular Locker Room app that has been the spot of sports-focused live audio rooms.
