There can be many reasons why the Toshiba Fire TV remote isn’t working. Some of them are as follows:

  • The remote has been damaged.
  • There are battery issues with the remote. Either the batteries have not been inserted properly or the batteries are damaged or discharged.
  • The distance between the remote and the TV is way too much. Usually the remote works fine when the distance is somewhere around 30 feet or so.
  • The remote is not compatible with the TV.
  • There might be some interference by any device which is hindering the Bluetooth connectivity between the remote and the TV.
  • There might be some obstructions that are hampering the direct line of sight of the remote.
  • The pairing is not working.

Now that you have understood what are the possible causes for Toshiba Fire TV remote not working, here are a few quick fixes.

Remove the batteries and try again

Most of the time, the batteries are the real culprits. Check whether the batteries are placed properly, that is, the negative side should go to the spring while the positive side should end up on the flat surface.

Take off the back panel and then reinsert the batteries. Turn on the remote. While you are at it, pat the remote against the palm of your hand.

Power cycle the remote and TV

Remove the batteries and then hold the power button for a minute or so. This is done to remove any residual power in the remote. Next, press all the buttons to unjam the buttons and then re-insert the batteries. You can also change the batteries at this stage of the operation.

To power cycle the Toshiba TV, unplug it from the main socket and then press and hold the power button to drain any residual power. Then, plug in your TV again.

Try to re-pair the remote

Sometimes, the remote automatically unpairs itself. Simply, locate the pairing button at the back of the remote after removing the back panel. Hold the button for about 15-20 seconds or until it connects to the TV.

If there is no pairing button on the remote, then press and hold the home button for about half a minute. Make sure that you are pointing the remote towards the TV. At this point, the remote should start to blink. Do this process until the remote is paired.

If that didn’t work, press the left button, back button and the menu button at the same time. Again make sure that you are pointing the remote towards the TV.

Replace the batteries

You should replace the batteries periodically. If the Toshiba Fire TV remote is not working, then you could try to insert a fresh set of batteries.

If nothing, it will at least narrow down the possible list of causes.

Remove any obstructions

Usually the remote works well when you are pointing it directly towards the TV. You should remove any obstructions so that the electronic signals from the devices are not hindered.

Sometimes, it is as easy as changing the seating position or shifting the TV a little bit.

Update the TV firmware

You should update the firmware as the old firmware degrades the performance of the TV. Check the official website to receive any updates regarding the firmware updates.

Try the Toshiba Fire TV app

It is more of a workaround rather than a proper fix. Download the Amazon Fire TV app from any authorised app store. The app comes with a remote that can come in handy if your official remote isn’t working.
