What is WhatsApp Plus? Everything you need to know

Whatsapp is currently one of the world’s most popular messaging apps. The app has everything a general user could ask for, including the ability to send files, large messages, unlimited messaging, voice and video calls and even supports sending money to your contacts.

However, to make the app safe, Whatsapp misses out on many features enthusiasts, and power users would like to have. This is where modded app versions like Whatsapp Plus come in handy.

In this article, we’re looking at Whatsapp Plus, how it differs from Whatsapp, and whether or not the mod is safe to use.

What is Whatsapp Plus?

As mentioned before, Whatsapp Plus is a modded version of Whatsapp that adds features like customisable themes, better privacy options and several other small tweaks and features not available in the standard version of the app.

Do keep in mind that mods like Whatsapp Plus are unofficial and made by independent developers. This means there are some caveats to using said modded versions.

For starters, you won’t be able to download it from the Google Play Store. Instead, users looking to get extra functionality out of their Whatsapp installations must go to a third-party site, download and manually install the APK for the app to work. iOS users are entirely left out of the loop here as well.

Whatsapp might soon start showing in-app ads soon in android

The biggest issue here is safety. Downloading and installing APKs from a third-party site runs the risk of infecting your phone with malware. And since the internet is essentially a free zone, you’ll find hundreds of clones of a mod, most of which will have some sort of malware attached to them. In such cases, it becomes important to download the modded APK from the right sources.

How is it different from vanilla Whatsapp?

Modded Whatsapp versions like Whatsapp Plus have three main advantages over vanilla Whatsapp.

Additional features

As mentioned before, modded Whatsapp versions come with a number of added features that you won’t find in the official version of Whatsapp. For instance, Whatsapp plus gives you undeletable messages, meaning you can see messages even after the original sender has deleted them. You can also forward messages to up to 250 people and upload more than 10 images at once without any loss in quality whatsoever.

Other features include a dark mode, the ability to message a number without having to save it and multi-language support.

More customisation options

Whatsapp Plus also lets you customise your version of Whatsapp to your heart’s content. There are hundreds of themes to choose from, each with message bubbles, chat screens, fonts and even message indicators. If in some case, you don’t like a particular theme, you can edit pretty much every aspect of the app to fit your style.

Besides that, you also get several different fonts and emoji packs to choose from and sticker packs that come bundled with the mod.

Better privacy options

You might not believe it, but Whatsapp Plus will give you way more control over your privacy, at least when using the app locally. You can freeze your last seen to a specific date, set privacy settings like read receipts, last seen and online status on a per contact or group basis and even lock specific chats (or the entire app) behind either a biometric pattern or PIN lock. The app even lets you decide what contacts can call you.

Is Whatsapp Plus safe to use?

This is a tricky question as it largely depends on the site from which you get your modded APK. There’s an official Whatsapp Plus website, much like all the other Whatsapp mods out there, that lets users download the modded APK for free and doesn’t contain any malware.

However, if you end up downloading the APK from the wrong site, you’re running a major risk as Whatsapp will have access to your contacts, files, GPS locations and just about everything else. Combine that with remote malware, and you’ll be in trouble before you see it coming.

Also, Whatsapp is known to ban users from using mods because it breaches the app’s privacy guidelines. Last but not least, since these mods are unofficial, support for them might end at a moment’s notice which means you’ll be left running a mod with an outdated base Whatsapp version, which opens you up to more security vulnerabilities.
