When are you charged by Airbnb?

At Airbnb, it takes time for hosts to accept your requests and bookings and until they do, you cannot be charged. When they do accept your booking, you will be charged according to the payment method entered by you and your room, apartment, or house will be booked and ready for you on your chosen date.

You will not have to pay any security deposits unless you cause any damage to the property of the house owner, which will be later charged to your card. This type of booking does not send any request to the owner and directly books your play of stay at no extra or hidden fees.


Payments accepted at an Airbnb

Airbnb does not generally accept cash however, hosts might accept cash payments for extra services but this has nothing to do with Airbnb. All monetary transactions are electronic to ensure the safety and security of both hosts and guests against issues like a fraud among others. Airbnb accepts the following modes of payment:

  • Credit and debit cards
  • Apple Pay
  • PayPal
  • GPay or Google Pay

Various countries have their individual or specific digital payments app through which any Airbnb located there will accept payment.


Types of payment methods

There are various ways you can pay for your trip if you are unable to pay in advance or the full amount when the reservation is confirmed. Keep in mind that your host is not paid until 24 hours after your check-in. The distinctive payment methods are given below, peruse them to pay at your pace:

Payment plan  

Having a payment plan allows you to pay only a certain amount when your reservation is confirmed and the rest later, which will be charged to your account on the date of the checkout. Any applicable payment plan will be visible at the checkout if your reservation passes a certain checklist.


Long-term reservations 

If you are planning on staying for 28 nights or more, you will have to pay the first month’s initial downpayment when your reservation is confirmed. Afterward, you will be charged a monthly fee which can be later viewed at checkout.


Scheduled payments

You can keep track of upcoming payments by checking on their site or through their app. Just head to Trips and select your reservation under What you’ve booked where you can get receipts under Payment info. Under the Your payment details option, click on Scheduled payments. All of your payment dates will be provided and you can check in advance when Airbnb is going to charge you.
